Markham Waxers (Tradition)

THE WAXERS "ARE" COMMUNITY

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT AThe Waxers are proud of the Town of Markham and are willing to get involved in a variety of ways, for a variety of causes.  Past involvement includes participation in the Terry Fox Run and the All About Kids Festival.

Always there to lend a helping hand, one of the biggest nights in recent history saw the Waxers hold a fundraiser for Markham resident Joshua Franey after he suffered a life threatening brain injury.  On a night where Alumnus Steve Thomas and Markham Olympians Ken Pereira and bronze medalists Karen Cockburn and Mathieu Turgeon pitched to help, the Waxers won a thrilling overtime game against Oshawa.  Joshua continues to come to the Waxers games every Friday night.

HANDICAPPED GUESTS At every Waxer game, the handicapped citizens of our community are invited as special guests.

The Mayor of Markham, Don Cousens, has assured us that access improvements will be made to the arena to accomodate the needs of the people.

CHRISTMAS SPIRIT The Waxers enjoy a chance to give back to the community and that is why each season the Waxers hold a "Teddy Bear Toss" during December.  The highly popular event sees fans throw their stuffed animals on to the ice after the Waxers score their first goal on that night.  The toys are then collected and donated to a local charity for distribution for Christmas.
COMMUNITY AMBASSADORS For over 60 years Junior Hockey has sent young athletes on. They have become ambassadors for our town.

The Waxers are synonymous with the Town of Markham. Markham's reputation has benefited greatly from these young athletes and their families.

Since the 1930s Junior Hockey in Markham has produced well over 1,000 young hockey players and men who have espoused the values of the town and its hockey program worldwide.
